- <p> DIED. LEW HOAD, 59, Australian tennis star; of a heart attack;
- in Fuengirola, Spain. During the '50s, the charismatic, hard-hitting
- athlete won five Wimbledon titles as well as eight other Grand
- Slam tournaments, earning him the No. 1 ranking in the world
- in 1956. Forced into retirement by back injuries, he coached
- players like Guillermo Vilas and Manuel Orantes on the way to
- their own Grand Slam titles.
